The latest batch of BMW M2 spy photos somewhat confirms what we have learned from our own sources: the new BMW M2 will have a dual-clutch transmission. The side view shot from Nurburgring shows the driver operating the transmission via shift paddles on the steering wheel. While this could also indicate an eight-speed transmission, we believe these larger shift paddles are identical to the ones found in the new M3 and M4, indicating a seven-speed DCT box. The manual transmission has yet to be confirmed, but it’s likely to be offered as well, at least for U.S. customers.
Early examples of the M2 Coupe will be sold exclusively in rear-wheel drive configuration, complete with an electronically controlled limited slip differential that incorporates a torque vectoring function for enhanced traction. An xDrive version will be offered in selected markets (U.S. is most likely one of them) at a later date.
The BMW M2 Coupe will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter in line six-cylinder direct injection petrol engine, not the same powerplant used in the new M3/M4. The engine code is S57 B30, a newly developed unit based on the B57 TwinScroll Turbocharged unit. The S57 can produce up to 400 horsepower. BMW M2 is rumored to have 360-370 horsepower.

The new M2 Coupe will be geared for a 0-62mph time of 4.4 sec in seven speed dual clutch guise – 0.5 sec faster than the 1M and 0.2 sec slower than the M4. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.
While the M Festival in May will host the launch of the M4 GTS, the M2 should arrive at a summer event before its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.
